Can You Really Use Twitter For Marketing Your Business? When I first got started online, I never thought I could use Twitter for marketing business.

Let’s face it, Twitter can be very busy and put you off if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Why Should You Use Twitter?

Twitter is a real-time information networking site that connects you to the latest information and with people in different niches. Trouble is, everyone wants to be heard. They have the best this, that and the other.

The truth is, Twitter has become one of the most popular and cost-effective marketing platforms around. If you’re not using Twitter to market your business, then you’re missing out on massive traffic and potential sales.

Here are some interesting facts for you to consider:

1. It’s the 10th most visited website online. You can attract targeted traffic from this site alone.

2. There are currently over 200 million users, generating millions of tweets per day.

3. It has become one of the most popular, most cost-effective marketing tools around.

4. Creating a lot of Twitter backlinks helps to increase your rankings since Google added these social media sites to their algorithm and use them in their rankings.

5. Everyone is there including your target market. Join them!

Using Twitter to Market Your Business

When using Twitter for business, your goal should be to share fresh content regularly, giving value to your followers.

Keep it simple, be consistent and avoid selling to people. It’s all about social networking and building relationships. It’s important to target the correct people and follow people similar to you.

Like the other social networking sites which are meant for socialising, Twitter is no different - it allows users to make friendships and socialise.

Hi Mavis,

I agree totally about the power of Twitter for marketing. Several of our best clients have come directly from our Twitter efforts!

It is also the social media platform of choice for many of the most influential bloggers and social media people on the planet and it is surprising how easily you can connect with these people.

Your point about selling in this space is a very good one. We NEVER sell on Twitter. We provide valuable information and we take part in conversations and that is the reason why we are noticed and that is the reason why people contact us through our website to work with us.

Interesting that Twitter is by far the largest referring site in our analytics (outside Google organic of course) and the back-links just keep on growing.

All the best

Hi Mavis,

This is a fantastic post. Most people who are on Twitter get frustrated and quit because they feel it’s so complex and that they can never learn how to do it. The interesting thing is that there are so many people who are willing to walk people through how to effectively use Twitter to build their business. I’ve learned that Youtube can be a great resource. I’ve learned a great deal of skills just by watching Youtube videos that educate me on the subject I’m trying to figure out.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello Mavis. As far as back-link building strategies go: Besides Blogengage being a great back-link building tool, Twitter is really powerful to build your back-links with, with it being the ten most visited site of all, and of course for the exposure you’re getting online. This works, of course, if you’re targeting your followers and not just following people willy-nilly.

Hello Mavis. I try keep my Twitter account as taregted as possible. That way I know my Tweets isn’t going down the drain. I have actually started to see that if you share as many people’s posts in your niche as possible, you get a lot of love and Retweets. Retweets also increase once you start really growing a rather big account ;)

I´m so impressed with your site and I´m realizing what a gold mine it is since you know EVERYTHING:)
A subject that I´d love to learn is “How do you write an e-book”?
All from reading about the book on your blog, jumping to the next page “download” and finally how have you made the cover and “book-looking” image on your site. Oh, well, sort of the process…….:)
That would be great to learn.

Building relationships with people on Twitter is probably the most important element to using the platform. If you can get advocates for your brand, who can then also spread the word across the Twitter, marketing using the site can be effective.

Mavis, liked your post! I was not using twitter earlier, like everybody else i thought it is for the celebrities only and as far as online marketeers are concerned, I always tried to avoid using it as i always thought it is full of spammers and as there are thousands of tool available to get fake followers. One of my friend insisted i start using it and he showed me few tips, i started using it, after a month i started getting a hang of things, now i cannot say i am an expert but yes, i am getting a good like minded traffic (though I wish I can get more).

Hi Mavis,

It took me a long time to get something out of twitter but in the last few months we are almost daily getting retweets and we are also starting to engage with potential clients. It has been a steep learning curve and initially we only had marketers and service providers following us now we have our targeted audience following is.

Our twitter referral traffic has gone up a lot too!

But yes it took me a while to get it right and probably could have done it quicker.

It’s a common rule that businessmen should go where their clients/ potential customers are. And just by considering that over 200 million people use twitter today, that would be a great venue to make your business known. I also just want to add that in twitter, the better option is to make a good content about your business to make it viral. You don’t need to sell. Your good content will do the selling for you.

Networking sites like Twitter is really a big help to us internet marketers because of the fact that people can market or have fun using it.
