In the world of home based business, MLM stands for multi level marketing. Sometimes it is also referred to as network marketing. Companies use this marketing strategy to put together a marketing and a sales force. When the task force either sells a product or brings in someone to join the sales team, then they are compensated by the company for their work. Sometimes when you search for the term “MLM” online, you may very well see the first few returned results say “MLM scam”. This is probably due to the fact that while some people are able to succeed in MLM and make big money, many people cannot. And that is probably where those search results are coming from.
In order to succeed in MLM, you have to be committed to putting in both the time and effort needed to make it work for you. Otherwise it would just be a waste of time. You have to want to stick with the programme for the long term if you are ever going to see the results you want. Yeah, you will more than likely make money in your first month with the programme, although it will most likely be a fairly small amount. If you are going to succeed in MLM, then there are some steps you can follow. One of the most important things you can do with MLM is to generate your own leads. This means you are dealing with the actual interested people, giving them value and attracting them to you. In order to generate leads, there are several avenues you can take and I will discuss a couple of them.
First, you need to learn how to brand yourself as a leader and be unique. Use your personality to rise above the noise – there’s no one like you out there… take advantage of that! You need to give value to the marketplace and offer solutions to people’s problems. When you do that, people will trust you and be attracted to working with you as you have established credibility. In no time, your phone will start ringing off the hook, people interested in what you have to offer
Secondly, you need to create a blog to help you succeed in MLM. By creating a blog, you will be able to reach out to your prospects, as well as build the much needed traffic in the process. Writing articles and putting them up on article directories for marketing purposes is also a good idea. This allows your content to be seen by millions and millions of people. Just be sure to include a link at the bottom to get them back to your site and surely people should bite.

I was recently on a training call with one of the top female producers in the network marketing industry, Tracey Walker. Let me tell you, this lady rocks!! She is EVERYWHERE – DOMINATES virtually every form of social media on the internet!! She has built a large organisation in just a year using FREE marketing strategies and she gets 14,000+ visitors to her blog every month at no cost. She is in the top 1% in her company at the highest leadership level.
So, here’s what I have for you… I wanted to share with you the exact blueprint that Tracey revealed on this call, on how she turns strangers into friends and friends into distributors.
First of all, in order to have a dramatic MLM success, you have to realise that you’re in SALES and you have to talk to people. No, I’m not talking about cold-calling people here. You need to learn how to sell yourself more than anything else. People are not interested in your products or business opportunity, they’re interested in YOU! So, you have to practice Attraction Marketing in your business – a very powerful concept!
So, how do you sell yourself? You see, social media can be a very powerful platform for you as a marketer, if used properly. Here I’m talking about sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and so on where you can befriend complete strangers. You need to connect with people and start conversations. Your goal should be to build relationships, trust and respect. NO TRUST = NO SALE. If you’re struggling to make sales, it may be that people don’t trust you enough yet.
You have to understand that people will join you effortlessly when their needs match your offer and you don’t need to convince them that you have the best offer on the planet. It’s important that you show them that you care and you have their best interests at heart.

1. Create Awareness
Market yourself understanding that the beginning of the sales process starts with YOU. You need to demonstrate your knowledge, strengths and talent. Find the marketing strategies that work for you. What works for someone may not work for you.
2. Provide Value and Solutions
As a marketer, you need to position yourself as a leader, giving value and providing solutions for FREE. You must always lead with great value, not your business opportunity or products. Take advantage of blogging, article writing and video marketing to give value for FREE. You can even create your own ebook, video tutorials, report and so on to showcase your talent and position yourself as an expert.
3. Offer Something That Will Cost Your Prospect Money
If everything you do is FREE, then you’ll never make any money in your business, right? Offer something that your prospect will need to pay for to show some commitment. For example, include affiliate product links in your e-mails.
4. Over-deliver
As the leader you have to go an extra mile and do things like weekly private team training. This will create a sense of community and great team environment, strengthen your relationship with your team and you will start feeling like you have known each other for a long time.
5. High-priced Item Offer
Now is the time to offer your customer a high-priced item, something that they know is right for them. Share your primary business and the benefits of working with you. Don’t try to convince or beg them. Refer them to the relevant business sites and let them makes their own decisions without you overloading them with too much information. A fact is, people prefer doing business with those they trust. When you have followed the above process properly, you will allow your prospects to sell themselves on your products and services.
6. Rinse and Repeat DAILY!!!
Go through the process and find out what works best and what doesn’t work, make adjustments and repeat the process over and over again. Focus on the income-producing /lead-generating activities and avoid distractions such as e-mail and phone. Focus, consistency and persistence are key. Make a decision that you will be committed to your business no matter how long it takes.

Since I joined my primary business, I have had the opportunity to learn more about leadership. It’s not really different to what I was taught and had experienced in the Corporate world. Good leaders are easy to identify since their qualities stand out and cut above the rest.
I am now learning from the Top Producers in the network marketing industry and what grabbed hold of me is that they all have one thing in common – yes, they are all rich however they follow the same leadership principles. I find this very important because it’s critical to the long-term success for any serious network marketer in this industry.
The truth is, the more you follow the same principles as the Top Producers, the closer you are to becoming a successful leader. Let’s face it – people follow leaders, not companies. It’s NOT about your company, your fantastic products or your amazing compensation plan. It’s about YOU – how you serve and help others to get what they want. This is how you’ll succeed in this industry.
Here are the 5 major things successful leaders do. As you go through them, do a personal assessment and see how you’re doing:
- Goal-setting gives leaders a great start on their way to building a successful business. They set daily, weekly and monthly goals and hold themselves accountable to this. Leaders have a ‘To-Do-List’ and are disciplined to complete their daily tasks. They also have a clear vision of what they want their businesses to become and take specific action steps towards achieving their goals.
- Income producing activities are the primary focus for the leaders. They prioritise their activities in terms of importance and urgency. They outsource or delegate less important activities. Most of their time is spent on lead generation, connecting with the new prospects and coaching their teams. These are the activities that build their empires!

They listen to motivational CD’s, read personal development books and watch inspirational videos. The lessons they learn become part of them because they implement and take ACTION. Leaders also have a physical fitness routine because physical fitness begets mental toughness.
- Master minding with the other leaders exposes leaders to positive stimuli to avoid the negative influences and to get inspired. They hang around like-minded people who inspire them and act like them. Leaders avoid people who don’t support them and don’t let the negative comments affect them. They take note of the saying – ‘Misery loves company!’
- Leading by example helps leaders to brand and position themselves as such. They take charge! They always cultivate leadership qualities and instill them in their teams so they can succeed in their businesses as well. Leaders take calculated risks to become even more successful. They are also able to seize opportunities that others may not even see.
