I don’t usually look forward to January. Why?
It gets very cold and frosty.
We currently have sub-zero temperatures… brrrrr!
So, how can it be your best month?
Here’s how…
A new year means new hopes, dreams, and aspirations. But the new year also brings with it an amazing opportunity for your business, especially during the first couple of months of the year.
One of the biggest resolutions people make around the holidays is to find a new job, or to start a new business, and that means a ton of potential leads and prospects for you come January.
With the world economy far from recovered and more people out of work than ever before, the number of people looking for genuine work from home or business opportunities is phenomenal.
If you’re in the internet marketing world or have an MLM business, then now is the best time of year to lay a solid foundation for your business.
Now, with so much noise in the marketplace, how do you make yourself stand out from the crowd, and get people to join your business rather than your competitors?
1. Offer Value
It’s been said many times before, but it’s very important and I’ll say it again. You have to offer your prospects nothing but value if you’re to stand any chance of winning their vote of confidence (i.e. business).
Bear in mind that yours will probably not be the first business opportunity they’ve explored, and disappointments of the past may have left them cynical.
You have to prove to them you really care about their success, and that you’re not simply after their credit card.
Now, you don’t just have to provide value in the form of a free product or giveaway.
You can offer value in a host of simple, but powerful ways.
If a prospect emails you, make sure you reply as quickly as possible, and as thoroughly as possible. The trust you can generate by answering an email personally is immense!
How about just filling your blog with helpful material?
I’m amazingly proud of my blog, and the resources I provide to my readers at no cost. Yes of course I’d love them to buy my products, but by giving freely of myself, I see a lot of my readers becoming customers.

2. Promote Your Brand
You really need to put yourself out there, if you want to promote your brand and attract targeted prospects.
Writing a blog post or two isn’t enough to enhance your business. You need to be in as many of the places your prospects could show up in. That means blogging, guest blogging, webinars, social media, the works.
Hang out where your ideal prospects hang out: Find out where they network, the websites they visit etc. and join the party — speak their language.
Ask your prospects which social networks they are using, and meet them there. Do not spread yourself too thin across all the social media sites you can find.
So, the more people see you, the more they’ll see you as an authority in your field. Plus, like all forms of advertising repetition and consistency are often the key ingredient to success.
3. Be Sincere
People are highly cynical and weary of hyped up sales chatter. Whilst it’s important to promote your business as positively as possible, you don’t want to come across like another greedy sales person only out for themselves.
Be honest, sincere and transparent at all times. Let people know you’re a real human being with feelings and morals. You want people to be able to identify with you, and feel like you empathise with them.
There you have it. These are the techniques that I use all the time in my business, and as January sends a flood of biz-op seekers into the market, now is the best opportunity to grow your blog, list and of course, your bottom line.

Fortunately down under in New Zealand we are unlikely to see frosts in January, although this year we’ve had a few more wet days than normal for summer.
Totally agree with the advice you give in this post especially “…filling your blog with helpful material” which should be a given for any site owner, however, many I visit in my research wouldn’t rate a second visit if ‘content’ was the sole criteria. Rehashed PLR, over-spun articles and those riddled with substandard English leave me wondering if some webmasters only care about writing for search engine spiders. Does Google ever buy through anyone’s affiliate links?

I normally use January as a time to hibernate and to feel down because of the cold weather we experience in Chicago. However, I made a decision in December that I would take advantage of this month like you said “One of the biggest resolutions people make around the holidays is to find a new job, or to start a new business.” I have gotten up and gone out each day with a purpose and the first 16 days of 2012 have been great for my business. But also I have each done attempted as best I can to do the three things you discussed in this post: “add value, promote my brand and be sincere.” I believe doing so has made a major difference. I believe that to achieve the highest success with all of the above is a constant journey as times and interests change; the trick is to stay up to date with what’s happening (which your post refers beautifully to by being where your targeted market spend their time).
The emotion part is also something I value highly as people would rather interact with someone alive than robots that does what he gets told to do. By this I am not against automated systems at all; in fact I love the technology, but the thing I like to keep in mind is to know when and where to use it to be as effective as possible.

I’ve personally found it challenging to stay on top of everything and my achilles heel has been follow up. I actually made myself a spreadsheet and a checklist for each day. Sort of a daily standard operating procedure! It’s really helping stay focused.

We’ve had some great weather this year but the last few days have been brutal in terms of frostiness. lol
I find January to be a great month however and people are starting out the new year on the right track.
It’s an overall starter month, since people embark on new Diets, new Gym memberships, business ventures, even new relationships. It’s a great opportunity for us to be in the right place at the right time and to be there for those who need our help.
