The internet is now the most powerful business medium ever created, offering people countless online business opportunities and creating a huge global market. Just imagine having a direct access to a marketplace of over one billion people – incredible! So, by leveraging the internet you can market and sell your products or services to the largest and most lucrative marketplace, from the comfort of your own home or from wherever.
Now, too many times, the vast majority of people who end up starting an online business do so because they get all hyped-up about some “ground-floor” online business opportunity or some “super” new product that they think will over-take the market and make them millions in the process.
But why do most people fall into the 97% category and fail to realise their dreams and to achieve their goals?
You see, a business opportunity is really nothing – not an opportunity at all. In fact, it’s just an agreement on a piece of paper and is not going to make you succeed. It actually takes more than buying a business kit and having access to the internet to market your business.
Your online business success starts with YOU and being connected with your WHY and goals — it’s important to keep reminding yourself why you started your business in the first place. Granted, success doesn’t come overnight, it takes commitment, determination, hard work, a lot of time and self-discipline.
It may take you months or even years – you never know when your breakthrough is going to come and have things happening for you. You just don’t know when everything is going to fall into place.
Moreover, your path to success will not be free of obstacles and challenges. In fact, there are bumps and setbacks in everyone’s life and career. Successful people encounter challenges all the way to the top and turn them into opportunities.
So why do people quit when success takes long to come their way?
They lack one important attribute, and that is PERSISTENCE. The only way you are going to achieve success in your online business is to persist no matter how long it takes and no matter what comes your way. All the successful entrepreneurs have had to be persistent and overcome challenges in order to succeed.
When I first got started with my online business, I was committed and determined to make it work. I put a lot of time into it and made a lot of sacrifices whilst paving the way for my success.
Despite all that, I didn’t have any sales or sign-ups for months and I felt I wasn’t getting anywhere fast. Many people would have called it quits, but not me. I wasn’t gonna give up — I believed in myself, in my company and in my mentor. I knew that I needed to keep at it consistently and it would be just a matter of time before I see the results that I was after.
And the result?
In no time I started waking up to sign-ups and sales in my e-mail inbox. I started going up against the top income earners on the search engines. I started growing an international team. I was also recognised as a rising star by my company. Now I’m really fired up more than ever before and look forward to taking my business to the new levels!
So, if things are not panning out the way you had expected, do NOT give up or quit. Stay the course, focus on your goals and keep going… This so KEY to your success!
“Perseverance is failing nineteen times and succeeding the twentieth”. ~ Julie Andrews

Mavis,
This is a very inspiring blog post! I enjoyed it very much! Persistence is a trait that every successful person has mastered be it a successful athlete or business person. A great example of persistence is an Olympic athlete. They must go through hundreds of hours of training to even get to the games. Think of that the next time you do not think you can make it. Take it one day at a time and you will be amazed at where you are in just one short year!
Thanks for sharing your wisdom Mavis!

Persistence and the proper mindset are the most important factors when it comes to making it as an online/affiliate marketer. I remember when I first started out about six years ago, armed with nothing but a totally naive attitude thinking that I would be able to get rich in only a couple of weeks. Believe me when I say that I banged my head against the one disappointment after the other…but I never gave up.
It’s true as you mention in your post, that the Internet is the most powerful market place in the entire world, and after a lot of struggling, I started to realize that to succeed I simply had to go where the money actually is… discovering the right keywords to target in commercial niches, setting up several different websites in diverse niches and build upon the ones that started to bring me some income.
It has worked out very well for me, and today I am self employed working from home, making more money than I ever did in my former “offline” job. Internet marketing really works, so do not give up or give in. I would suggest you find yourself a mentor that you trust, a person who is already successful. Copy what they do, keep educating yourself and you cannot go wrong.

Well, nothing gets really accomplished by sitting back and letting happen- you have to make things happen. So, good for you and your determination and work ethic. So many people get discouraged and young people often don’t have quite the work ethic, that it’s a breath of fresh air to see that hard work pays of. How long did it take you to get to a level of success that you were happy with?
That’s very true, Sam. Most people don’re realise that they need to keep going to see the desired results.
It took me about 8 months and I’m still working towards my goals
Thanks for the visit and encouragement.

One thing the internet marketing gurus say again and again is that the single most important quality you can have for online business success is persistence, even tenacity
Agreed. Thanks for your input.
You are SO right – persistence is key. I hate to break it to everyone, but IM is HARD WORK! It took me two years to get my IM business where I wanted it to be and not from lack of hard work. Unfortunately there are so many gurus selling the latest system that people believe will make them rich without the work. Yeah, right! LOL
It is hard work, Tayna. Congratulations on finally cracking the code!
Welcome to my blog! Hope to see more of you here.

All so very true Mavis.
I take my hat off to you in relation to your success.
There are too many people that think that they can reap success instantly these days – no one wants to work hard or persevere to achieve their goals.
We sadly live in a world where technology has influenced so many things, and created a ‘today’ attitude – everything is expected immediately.
Sadly this isn’t the ‘real’ world, and there is no substitution for hard graft or determination.
As the old cliche says, “Everything comes to those who wait”.
You have to stay strong and believe, keep going and your big break could only be around the corner.
Thanks very much, Sam. You’re so right – there is no substitution hard work, determination and persistence.
The key is to keep going until you see the desired results.
I appreciate your visit and input. Hope to see more of you here
All the best,

I am making money online now. Although it is just enough to pay the bills but it is not bad for beginners like me. I do agree that persistence is important on making it online. It is more than a year before i could get my first online job. I almost gave up. I always almost gave up. But thanks for my persistence i am now earning from the comfort of my home close to my children.

Hi,
I love this article. Less than a week ago I was telling someone how important persistence is when it comes to anything let alone online marketing. A little trick I do is create a 100-day count down chart and stick it up in the kitchen. I then focus on one goal and tear of a page each day counting down the 100 days. This works wonders because it keeps you trying for at least 3 months and helps you focus on your goal.
Great article. Thanks
All the best

As usual, great post. Persistance is the receipe for sucess in so many areas, not just internet marketing. In IM there are so many things to learn, to adapt to and to avoid (scammers!) and its a rocky road.
If it were easy everyone would be doing it and it would make our jobs harder. I tell you what though, it makes it that much more sweeter when you do eventually crack it ;0)
Steve
Thanks very much, Steve. Agreed, it’s so much fun when you know what you’re doing

Persistence and tenacity go hand and hand. Yes indeed if you want to start an online business it is a must have. I would even go so far to say you definitely won’t succeed if you don’t have it. I think so many people believe if it is online, than it is easy, even for business start-ups. Stick with it, learn, get a proven plan and then work that plan and you will have online business success.
