My Favourite Motivational Quotes That Help Me to Stay the Course – What Are Yours?

by Mavis Nong on April 1, 2011

My Favourite Motivational Quotes That Help Me to Stay the Course What Are Yours? In line with my recent post: Goal-Setting: How is 2011 Going For You?, I thought it would be appropriate to share some of my personal favourite motivational quotes to help you to stay focused on your goals.

I also invite you to share your favourite quotes that help you to stay the course no matter what challenges or setbacks come your way.

Life is full of unpleasant surprises and setbacks, so it’s important to get some dose of inspiration and encouragement every now and then.

Make listening to motivational CD’s, reading personal development books, masterminding with like-minded individuals, watching inspirational videos part of your weekly routine if not daily.

It’s very important to feed your mind with the positive thoughts. Your positive attitude can help you to put more faith in your business and the rest will follow.

Successful people encounter challenges all the way to the top and turn them into opportunities.

Do your best to develop mental toughness. When you come across obstacles and challenges, you will need extra motivation, full commitment, total determination, extra drive, patience and persistence to overcome them.

That said, here are my personal favourite motivational quotes, that I live and work by:

1. “You are the only real obstacle in your path to a fulfilling life.” ~ Les Brown

2. “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.” ~ Yogi Berra

3. “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.” ~ Jim Rohn

4. “Failure plus failure plus failure equals success. You only fail when you quit.” ~ Jack Hyles

5. “To lead others is to help them change their thoughts, beliefs and actions for the better.”~ Jim Rohn

6. “Leaders aren’t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work.”~ Vince Lombardi

8. “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough people get what they want”.~ Zig Ziglar

9. “It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.”~ Napoleon Hill

10.“If people like you, they’ll listen to you, but if they trust you, they’ll do business with you.”~ Zig Ziglar

11. “The greatest mistake marketers make is trying to create demand.”~ Eugene Schwartz

12. “You are the only real obstacle in your path to a fulfilling life.” ~ Les Brown

13. “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” ~ Vince Lombardi

14. ”You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.” ~ Les Brown

15. We all know that nothing moves until something moves: YOU!” ~ Mavis Nong

16. “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” ~ Author Unknown (Thanks, Ilka)

17. “If you greatly desire something, have the guts to stake everything on obtaining it.” ~ Brendan Francis

18. “If you want to have more, you first have to become more.” ~ Jim Rohn

19. “Without a sense of urgency, desire loses its value.” ~ Jim Rohn

20. “You will become as great as your dominant aspiration.” ~ James Allan

21. “The major reason for setting a goal is for what it makes of you to accomplish it. What it makes of you, will always be far greater value than what you get.” ~ Jim Rohn

22. “It is the set of sails, not the direction of the winds, that determines which way we will go.” ~ Napoleon Hill

23. ”Positive thoughts bring positive energy, and positive energy brings positive results.” ~ Jordan Hemmann

24. “Man alone, has the power to transform his thought into physical reality; man alone, can dream and make his dreams come true.” ~ Napoleon Hill

Nice collection Mavis,

A few goodies in there I haven’t heard before. Isn’t Jim Rohn just one of the most quotable people of all time?!

Have to say the classic Napoleon Hill at #22 is a big fave of mine…

Since we’re on the subject, Here’s a link to a collection of success quotes I put together a while ago.

Thanks for the inspiration Mavis!

Hi Mavis,

Oh, I absolutely LOVE this post. I love quotes, they are part of my daily life. Oh, and thanks for adding one I shared with you yesterday. It’s a good one.

I have so many favorites, some of them you mentioned already above. But here are some more …

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~Mark Twain

“Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. It is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead-end street.” ~William A. Ward

“Success is something you attract by the person you become.” ~Jim Rohn

“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” Vince Lombardi

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day, saying… “I will try again tomorrow.” ~ Mary Anne Rademacher

“It is one of the most beautiful compensations in life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.” ~Brian Tracy

“You can’t see the whole picture just holding one piece of the puzzle.” ~Ilka Flood

“If the heart isn’t in it, neither is the money.” ~Ilka Flood

I could go on and on, but I better quit :)

Thanks for sharing your favorites! I’ll be bookmarking them.

Thank you for sharing these inspirational quotes, Mavis. You reminded me that I was posting a new one on my FB page once per week for quite a while…and I should get back to it.
Here’s one of my favorites:

“You should know now that a man of knowledge lives by acting, not by thinking about acting, nor by thinking about what he will think when he has finished acting. A man of knowledge chooses a path with heart and follows it.”
– Carlos Castaneda, A Separate Reality

I absolutely agree with your point on feeding your mind with positive thinking. I recommend listening to audio that reinforces positive thinking. I like listening to Gary Vaynerchuck, Randy Pausch, Dan Miller (48 Days to the Work you Love).

One quote I love is by Abraham Lincoln who said “Things may come to those who wait…but only the things left by those who hustle”

“Hold a picture of yourself long and steadily enough in your mind’s eye, and you will be drawn toward it.” – Harry Emerson Fosdick

For me this is a powerful quote because much of our goal setting in life is focused on doing. This reminds me that what’s happening in my mind is as important (maybe more so) as what’s happening through the actions I take. Great topic, Mavis! (BTW…LOVE Jim Rohn, so appreciated all the JR quotes)

There are just too many of my favorite quotes and I’m really bad at remembering so whenever I come across a good one I either save it or jot it down in my diary, I even use to collect clippings but I don’t do that anymore :) This post just gave me a chance to express how reading quotes motivated and gave me courage specially during hard times. I also find biblical quotes very encouraging. However, the quote which drove me this far is ‘Where there is a will there is a way.’

Hi Mavis!
Great collection of inspirational quotes.
We need them every single day, next after washing teeth :) or maybe even before.
I noticed that quotes are retweeted more often than any other tweets. Tweeple like them.
This is one of the quotes I got on twitter today:
“I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody. Bill Cosby” – very true to my view.
I love Ilka’s collection as well
