The only hard work in internet marketing is done by those who complicate it. The internet is designed for efficiency of interactivity, but so many people do what the Mike Filsames and the Mark Joyners say. No doubt these guys are successful, but there are plenty of other more successful people who don't show boat around distracting people from the simplicity of interactive blogging and the cutting edge tools that are available to everyone for free. These 'black hatters' don't want to adapt and grow with the internet. Instead they use it to push obsolete products and worse; obsolete ideas.

I have to agree that the internet is extremely competitive, which makes internet marketing very challenging. I haven’t tried the old marketing methods like chasing family and friends or bugging strangers in the shopping malls. Maybe because I usually use social networking sites for marketing.

Great article, Mavis and you are exactly right. The internet is ever evolving and is EXTREMELY competitive. My advice to anyone new to trying to ‘make money online’ is to be careful as there is lots of white noise out there and lots of rehashed junk. It is really diluted by those who are just out to make a buck so find someone to follow and pay attention to what works for them!

@ Karen, You are right, promoting an affiliate product can be very competitive. That is why keyword research is so important. You need to focus on trying to rank for keywords that are not very competitive but have a reasonable number of searches. Find a teacher/guru you like and trust (like Mavis), listen to what they have to say, and implement what you learn. been there, Ellyn Deuink
