A LOT of marketers spend most of their time on Facebook and Twitter.
What about LinkedIn? Are you also not taking advantage of this social site to get in front of your targeted audience?
How would you like to hang out with professional business people and generate some exposure?
Why LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is an incredibly powerful online social network designed specifically for professionals and executives with whom you can connect and network. It has over 100 million members in over 200 countries.
The quality of the members is high and the average household income is $110,000 per year, giving them a disposable income to start a business if they so desire.
This social media platform is all about professional connections rather than just friends and is ideal for network marketing entrepreneurs.
How to Use LinkedIn for Maximum Results
As LinkedIn is a white-collar” social site, you don’t want to go and in there and start acting unprofessionally, doing all the wrong things like posting your business opportunity links everywhere.
No one will take you seriously!
You want to always lead with value, value and value. Your goal should be to offer marketing, mindset and leadership training and tips. And, this will set you apart and help you to attract more people who are hungry to learn from you.
Let’s get the basics right…
1. Create Your Profile
It’s best to use your own name and add what you do. People will be able to see this right away when they come across your profile. They can decide whether to connect with you or not based on your career or interests.
Image is very important - you need to upload your nice, smiling, positive-looking picture (not your pet, family or business logo).
Your profile should tell a story about you and display your personality – put up ALL the information about you including your business, other social media and blog links.
You also need to include your current and past work details. This is just like writing your CV!
2. Join Groups in Your Niche
There are groups that you can join on LinkedIn to connect with like-minded individuals and to share your content. You want to look for larger and active groups. You can join up to 50 groups. This is not Facebook!
It may take a few days before you get accepted in to some groups, so you need to exercise your patience. There’s no harm in contacting the group owner if nothing happens after a while.
How do you find them?
You’re in luck today! You can grab a list of 42 LinkedIn groups that I use to share my content on your way out
You can also create your own group (you’re allowed up to 10). This will allow you to message your members every now and then.
3. Sharing Content in Multiple Groups
If you want your content to be seen and attract the “white collar” professionals to your blog and business, then you need to post your content in the discussion section of each group (where content sharing is allowed).
This is exactly what I do with every piece of content I create. I also respond to people who comment on my articles and connect with them there.
With what result?
I keep attracting new traffic to my blog and generating leads as well as getting new connections and comments like:
“I found you on LinkedIn”
“I’ve been following your articles on LinkedIn”
Now, it can be very time-consuming to post your content in this groups manually, I mean visiting each group to add your content.
I’ve been doing it manually until I discovered a quicker way to do it in about 5 minutes, WITHOUT using any tool! If you know of any app or tool to use, please let me know in the comments section below
How to Promote Your Content in the LinkedIn Groups at Once
1. The first thing you need to do is to share your your blog post link on your own profile (by clicking on the “Home” tab) so that your connections can see it in the news feed. If you have a catchy headline, an attractive image and a short comment about your post, then you will attract more eyeballs.
2. Hit “Like” if you dig your post and click on the “Share” link as shown in the image below so that you can share your link in the groups at one go.
3. Check the “Post to group(s)” option only and start selecting your relevant groups, allowing content sharing.
What happens is, when you hit the first alphabet e.g. “A” all groups under “A” will come up, then you just click on them and they get added to the “Group(s)” field.
Since I belong to a lot of groups under “M”, I usually enter “ma”, “ml” and “mu”. See what I mean below:
I know all my groups’ first letters, so I go through this quicker. However, it’s best for you to keep your list (get it below) handy until you get the hang of it.
4. Add your title and short comment about your post.
5. Hit the “Share” link to post in all the groups at the same time.
6. In just a second, your update will show up in the news feed and in all the selected groups, giving your content more exposure!
Side note: I have 14 minutes to edit or delete the post…
And, that’s it!
Note that some group owners moderate each post update. So don’t be surprised when you don’t see your links right away!
4. Use the Answers Section
I have to say that LinkedIn Answers is one of the most effective but under-utilised way to build credibility, promote brand, generate traffic and leads.
You need to go for a category that you have some experience or expertise in.
Go to the search option and choose “Answers” and enter your keyword. In the example below, I have used “blogging”.
Choose a question that you want to answer and do your best to your provide an intelligent answer. You can always add your relevant blog post links. Don’t just spam people with your links. No one will take your seriously!
You also don’t want to spend hours on end answering people’s questions.
If you use this strategy properly, you’ll start generating some exposure, traffic and leads for your business.
Key Takeaway
There you have it.
Social media is RED-HOT right now. If you’re not embracing it and not making money with it, you’re MISSING the boat! Get instant access to the modern-day and amazing marketing strategies including social media marketing and skyrocket your business!
If you’re not promoting your brand and exposing your content on LinkedIn, you’re missing out on this goldmine. LinkedIn is not as busy as Facebook and Twitter but very powerful.
Go and get those big shots in to your business!
Oh, before you go, be sure to grab a list of 42 Linkedin groups that I use to share my content in less than 5 minutes.
You can download this list in exchange for a tweet.
Click on the button below and download my list for free, if you pay with a tweet.

Mavis, this a very good article and the information on sharing to groups is invaluable to me. I am Linkedin and have been only placing shares and direct posts to individual groups. I have been on Linkedin for over two years now but in many ways I am still a Neophyte and have not utilized this wonderful site to it’s potential. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.

Great article Mavis. I think Linkedin gets over looked by so many people, I’ve been there from the start of my time in marketing but have not used it to it’s full potential, but after reading your post will start posting to the groups that I’m in. But a problem I have at this time with being a newbe is time, having a tool to automate the process would be great. One tool I do use to post to Linkedin is HootSuite (Free/$5.99pm), I can load up my weeks updates in one go and it can also be used to update FB & Twitter.
Thanks, Andy. Welcome to my blog!
I couldn’t agree with you more about LinkedIn being under-utilised.
Are you able to post in the groups using Hootsuite? I find that my little trick works well for me to be honest. But, yes a tool would be even better, like in seconds
Looking forward to meeting you at the event tomorrow!

Mavis

“A lot of marketers spend most of their time on Facebook and Twitter ..” and for good reason I’d say! Facebook is probably getting a ton more traffic than Twitter, LinkedIn or Youtube combined, and is responsible for driving a LOT of referral traffic than either of the other major players in the social media industry.
Having said that, let’s not underestimate the power of ‘smaller’ networks such a LinkedIn. Its a brilliant tool without a shadow of a doubt, especially for connecting professionals, and therefore it is imperative to have your presence on LinkedIn as well otherwise you’re probably missing out, as stated in the article above. Good, informative post, and a great read, Mavis!

LinkedIn is a very useful social media network, especially for B2Bs. Facebook and Twitter are good, but there are lots of distractions. People use LinkedIn strictly for business so they may be more receptive to your message.

Hi, Mavis,
What a wonderful post! A lot of marketers are talking about the power of social media. Some give away generic statistics emphasizing on the power of the internet. Others give our tips here and there. You are different! You bring in the key ACTION parts that actually ‘sell’ the idea that LinkedIn is a Goldmine! No convincing. Simply sharing

Hi Mavis. I’ve read so much about LinkedIn but I find that many people stick to Facebook and Twitter when it comes to mass marketing. I think that’s a major fail on their part since LinkedIn is a great tool. It’s not just great for businesses put individuals too, as you can promote yourself and find jobs directly via the companies offering them.

Your information and recommendations have helped me a lot to avoid such mistakes and improve to offer quality information to Linkedin user.
You’re welcome, Mac.
Hi Mavis,
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network with over 120 million members and growing rapidly. LinkedIn connects you to your trusted contacts and helps you exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals..

Thanks for sharing this info Mavis. I have been in linkedin about 8 years now and never knew how to post to the groups. Appreciate you sharing this information.

Great information Mavis. I’ve not really looked into Linked in too much. I’ve been rather distracted lately, which is some out of my control and some due to my own lack of effective time management If I’m honest. Thank you for these insights. I’ll be back to this articel again to go through it and set up the Linked in properly and use it to it’e full advantage.
