One of the effective ways to build your brand and get recognised in this industry is to leave your comments on the other blogs. The more people see your name on different blogs, the more they will want to learn about you to see who you are and what you do. So, if you regularly leave good comments especially on highly trafficked blogs, you can also drive more traffic back to your blog. That’s what we all want to build our businesses, isn’t it?
Now, what good is it if you use a default image and people don’t see your face next to your comments? If you really need to be visible and make a name for your self in the blogging arena, then you need to add your picture. And pictures of your pet, company logo and so on, will not help you to achieve this.
If you have ever wondered how people have their pictures next to their comments, then wonder no more… Follow these easy steps below:
1. Head over to Gravatar.com and sign up for a free account.
2. You will need to use the same e-mail address that you use for leaving comments.
3. Click on the link sent to your e-mail address to activate and confirm your account.
4. Go to My Account and follow the instructions to add your picture.
5. Check that everything is confirmed and saved… Then you are good to go!
**Note that if you are already registered with WordPress.com, you don’t need to create a new account with Gravatar.com. You will just need your WordPress password to access your Gravatar account.
After adding your picture, Gravatar will update all the comments that you have previously left on different blogs without your picture, as long as you were using the same e-mail address.
So, everytime you submit a comment on a blog, your picture will be automatically included. No spending time uploading it all the time.
Once you have your gravatar done, come back here to leave a comment below and see how your picture looks like!

Great tip, Mavis – it's amazing how many people still don't know anything about gravatars!
Branding is a great thing, so get your face out there:)

Hi, Mavis, i have one question:

Mavis, great explanation on how to get an Avatar to show. I see this question asked all the time on forums and blogs. Gravatar is awesome. Plus it integrates so easily with so many services.

okay so if I understand this once I’ve created my avatar at Gravatar.com it should show up any time I leave a comment with my e-mail address?
That’s right.
Very helpful,
Thank You
You’re welcome, Fred
I have been commenting on blogs quite a bit lately and every time I see a comment with a picture beside it, I wonder how it was done. Thanks so much for simplifying this for me.
You’re welcome, JT.

Thanks for this. I had sort of heard about Gravatar for adding your photo in your blog comments, but hadn’t checked it out. I’m not sure I want my photo blasted all over the net. But I never thought using it for a logo or illustration or something else to personalize my commenting. Thanks for pointing it out.
You’re welcome, Dave. I look forward to your picture

I created an Avatar that I use for Yahoo answers. I guess I could use that same one as a Gravatar, too. I’ll have to give it a try. It is cartoon-like and kind of looks like me but not exactly
