Spring has sprung here in the UK — finally! I got so fed up of the long winter we have had, which was full of ongoing colds and all sorts of viruses you can think of.
Last Saturday, the clocks sprung forward and I wasn’t happy about losing an hour. However, on the bright side…
- The evenings are getting lighter
- The days are getting longer
- It’s getting sunny and warmer
- Plants and flowers are changing
- Birds are in tune again with their chorus
- Everyone looks happy
Spring is my favourite season and I love the transition from the harsh winter months to the warmer months with the beautiful changes
Here’s another thing that makes this time of the year significant…
Today marks the end of the first 90 days of 2011. I can hardly believe that! It seems like the other day when we were kissing 2010 goodbye and saying ‘hello’ to 2011!
So, what’s up with the 90 days?
It is common practice to set 90-day goals and review them at the end of 90 days or every 3 months. So, in January this year, you should have written down several and different goals which needed to be accomplished by 31 March 2011. Did you?
And the question is: Have you successfully achieved your goals in the past 90 days?
Oh, let me ask you: Have you even set and written your goals to start with?
Goal-setting is the key to your success. Period. And there is a lot more that goes into achieving your goals than just writing them on a piece of paper.
Your goals must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Tangible). Be specific, what do you really want to achieve and by when? Make your goals real, feel them, see yourself already having what you want.
“Make money online” or “Make more money” is one of the popular goals, however without specifics, this goal may not be achievable. It’s important to be clear about what you want to accomplish and set the target date. For example, “I want to make $10,000 by the end of March” would be your primary goal.
The next step would be to formulate sub-goals, if you like. This is where you specify the action steps you’re going to take to make $10,000 in 90 days. For example, investing in personal development, focusing on one or two marketing strategies, being more productive, masterminding with like-minded individuals… you get the idea
Now the first 90 days of the year are over, it’s time to reflect on what has worked and what has not worked for you…
If you haven’t done great with accomplishing your goals, don’t fret! You now need to review your goals and see where you need to make some adjustments. It could be that you took on too much or too little or maybe you had challenges that you just couldn’t deal with and move forward. Don’t beat yourself up – things happen!
Key Takeaway
Building your business should be fun and flexible, so you can make adjustments as you go along. They key is to take action, build the momentum and be fully committed to achieving your business goals. Taking consistent daily actions will get you there — guaranteed!
Tomorrow, 1 April, marks the new beginning – do you know where you’re headed? I highly recommend that you review and set your goals for the next 90 days. And we’ll go through this again on 30 June – deal?
In my next post, I’ll be sharing some of my achievements in the past 90 days.
Over to you now:
- How did the first 90 days go for you?
- Have your reviewed your goals?
- What adjustments do you need to make?

Hi Mavis,
Persistence is one of the keys to achieving our goals. Too many people fail not because they lack the ability, but they lack the patience and determination to reach their goals.
As for me, my last 90days has been great because I achieved so many things, got employed to work with one best company in USA, launched my 2nd sister website for a business social community site. So my 90days has been great and am still moving forward to achieve more of that.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Valentine,
Great to see you here again
So true – if you’re not persistent and patient, then you’ll give up along the way, if you don’t see any significant results.
Congratulations on your achieving your goals!
Much success in the next quarter,
Mavis

That’s true, SeoDezin.
Mavis,
Great post, goal setting is something we do not do enough of. I like to take it a step further I call it plan setting. When you plan it is no longer vague. It has solid direction and a chief aim and you can not turn back.
Thanks for your words and your message I needed to hear this today. Thank you for the modivation you give me and so many others.

Hey Mavis, I am envious that Spring has sprung in your neck of the woods. I know you had a hefty Winter.
We are still ‘wet’ out here but at least the flowers are starting to poke their heads through!
I am doing ‘ok’ on my goals. I set goals and then break them down into weekly goals in order to focus on what’s before me.
More often than not, I’ve done well.
I agree that Goal Setting is Huge. There is something about having a ‘list’ to check off that helps!
I can’t wait to read your next post. I’ll bet its been huge!

It’s vital to check ourselves up from time to time Mavis. 90 days is an ideal window to step back, take a deep breath, and assess where you’re headed, and more importantly WHY you’re headed there.

I am just about to look back and see where I am against my 2011 goals with my blogging venture, last year I did reach most of my set out goals due to too many factors beyond my control so I revised to make my goals more reachable.

Hey there Mavis. This is a great post. You make so many valid points. It is so important to readjust and evaluate the process that you take to reach your goals. Because just one adjustment can be the ticket to you achieving it.
I also like how you suggest evaluating every 90 days. It will definitely keep you sharp without you over thinking your process.
Thanks again for this wonderful post

Hi Mavis,
I’m doing alright. Have achieved some of my goals, but not all of them. So I’m a little disappointed but looking forward to doing better the next 90 days. The good thing about goals is that they can be adjusted.

Great post Mavis,
A lot of people put all of their energy into preparation and not enough into reviewing goals. This reviewing is one of the best ways to “course correct” and get to the final destination even if things aren’t going well up to that point.

Hi Mavis,
Goals, Intentions, Targets, Outcomes…. whatever one wants to call them are very important to have. They provide a map for us so that we know what activities we must focus on.
One of the biggest problems with goal setting however is that people set them and then focus on the absence of the goal rather than focussing on where they are headed.
It’s a subtle shift but makes all the difference as to whether you get the law of attraction helping you to get what you want or get what you don’t want.
Awesome topic for consideration especially when seasons are about to change. Lucky you… I love the change of seasons in Europe.

Hey Marcus,
Agreed – Often times, people get so excited about their and what they are going to do and then hit a brick-wall. Why? Firstly, they don’t take action, they let their goals sit on the shelf and gather dust. Secondly, their goals were probably not SMART in the first place.
Yes, we’re lucky here
Thanks for the visit and input, Marcus.

The first 90 days I had big goals, but I wasn’t sure how to implement them. The last 30 days I’ve pinpointed how they play out and have made great strides. My goals for the next 90 days are almost scary! With the progress I’ve made in the last 30 I’m not sure I can even imagine the next 90!

Nabil here again.
I may have not told you this, but I’m 18 years old and graduating in about 2 months.
In January, I set up a goal for myself saying that I’d be making at least $2000/month passively — without even lifting a finger, at the day of my graduation.
About 60 days into the challenge — I reached my goal. The bad thing about it is that I’ll be making that much money, passively, 6 months a year as the website making me money is a website about shoes people wear during the summers. Gotta come up with something new in a few days that can help me reach my goal.
Thinking of doing something else to reach my goal — such as creating a forum. Don’t really know…

I absolutely agree with what @Valentine has said, persistence is key, without it no goal would ever materialize. We need to stay motivated all the time….different people get motivated by different things so it’s important to identify first what motivates you and then attach those things with your goal in anyway, that way you’ll stick to your goal.
Agreed, Veronica. Absolutely important to stay focused on your goals, no matter what.
Thanks for stopping by and for your input.
All the best,
Mavis
I seriously need to consider the idea of goal setting. I’ve attempted it before but found it hard to get around because a goal should be quantifiable and in the world of internet marketing it is hard to quantify due to the unpredictability. Factors such as SEO doesn’t help as well. For example, setting a goal to achieve a certain level of traffic or conversions. It’s hard to put a number on it ’cause you never really know how things will turn out.
Practice makes perfect, Steve.
When you put a number on it, you have something to work towards
