Breaking News – My Blog’s Alexa Ranking Creeps Below 50,000 in the World!

That’s right, my blog’s Alexa ranking has crept below 50,000, standing at 48,160 at the time of writing.

As you would imagine, I’m exceedingly excited and I just wanted to share this with you today!

And I wouldn’t have achieved this without you my dear, incredible and fantastic readers! Thank you soooooo much for your amazing support and encouragement!

So, what does this accomplishment mean?

It basically means that my blog is in the top 50,000 websites in the world according to the volume of traffic and sites linking to my blog.

Now, what’s the big deal about the Alexa ranking? I hear you ask…

Who is Alexa?

Alexa is a subsidiary of Amazon.com and it measures a number of traffic metrics, search analytics and more, for all websites in the world. It gathers information about the activities on your site and determines your overall ranking in the world and in the US.

One may argue that Alexa is not 100% accurate, however it’s the industry’s accepted metrics measurement tool.

Does the Alexa Ranking Really Matter?

Absolutely! It gives an indication of the amount of traffic you get daily and the number of links back to your site. People use your Alexa ranking to establish your blog’s authority level as well as the quality of links from your blog.

When you have a great Alexa rank, people will start seeing your blog as a site of authority, which means more traffic and comments for you.

Attraction Marketing Online’s Alexa Ranking History

When I started my Attraction Marketing Online blog about 18 months ago, my Alexa rank was around 2 million in the world. And there was no chance of improving it as I didn’t know anything about blogging, let alone website ranking.

Then when I started implementing what I’m about to share with you in a minute, it started dropping steadily, but when I took massive and consistent action, it started plummeting like crazy!

How I Dropped My Blog’s Alexa Ranking to 48,160 In the Past 2 Months!

1. Getting Google Love

The strategies in the post below are responsible for getting me tons of traffic from Google:

2. Posting Frequently

I have been posting 2-3 times a week since I started my blog. I increased my posting frequency when I joined the blogging challenge – Clever Marketer Prove It Challenge. When you post frequently, search engine spiders will learn to come regularly too, to identify the new content on your blog and expose it.

My Alexa ranking was around 107,000 on 10 January 2011, when I started the challenge.

3. Blog Commenting

I joined a private commenting tribe, which helped me to get comments on my blog. I started commenting on the other members’ blog as this was one of the requirements to participate in the tribe.

I then realised that this was powerful, so I went on a blog commenting frenzy and got incredible results, still am. I’m driving traffic from other relevant blogs, building quality backlinks and networking with others.

Increasing your traffic and backlinks is so key in improving your Alexa ranking.

4. Content Syndication

I use different strategies to syndicate my content at the push of a button. This is very powerful as it gives your blog massive exposure , generates traffic and creates quality backlinks from popular sites.

Onlywire – I use this site to blast my newly published posts to about 40 social bookmarking sites, at the push of a button.
IMAutomator – I use this site to create backlinks on autopilot. Very easy to use: just enter the URL you’d like to bookmark, IMAutomator extracts the title, description and tags (or you can enter your own), and then you submit and forget!
Syndication Tribe – I recently joined a great syndication tribe where members help each other to share their content all over the web. See the results I got below in just a few days of joining TribePro.

5. Guest Posting

I eventually mustered up the courage to start guest blogging and I’m so glad I did! However, I’m quite selective – I go for authority blogs with 20,000 or so Alexa ranking – less than that it’s even better! Why?

Generating links through your guest posts and mentions from authority blogs can boost your traffic and rankings.

6. Social Media Marketing

Without a doubt, social media is red HOT right now and it offers a free “word of mouth” advertising. If you’re a marketer or blogger and you’re not taking full advantage of this, then you’re missing out! I promote my new posts through Linkedin, Twitter and Facebook – profile, fan page, groups and tribes.

I also make it very easy for my readers to share my content:

I use a call-to-action at the end of every post, asking them to share my content.
I have placed the sharing floating bar strategically so they feel obliged to share my posts.

7. Social Community Sites

I have joined a few of these sites as they are smaller than places like Digg, StumbleUpon etc. They are ideal for getting your face and blog out there and for networking with the successful bloggers. Go ahead and check them out: Blokube, BlogInteract, BizSugar, SERPd.

I also submit my content to Betternetworker – the social community site for home business owners. This gives my blog some exposure and generates a bit of traffic too.

8. Alexa Account

I used my Facebook account to claim my blog. You can create a new Alexa account altogether. In order to claim your site, you need to verify and confirm that you’re authorised to add content, by uploading a text file or using a meta tag code. Nothing complicated, just follow the instructions – if I did it you can do it too

9. Site Listing Update

I also updated my listing and blog information using their self-service tools, to make it more professional.

10. Alexa Widget

As you may have noticed, I recently installed the Alexa Rank widget on my blog’s sidebar, right at the bottom. It is believed that it does help with improving your Alexa ranking. Of course, every little thing helps.

11. Bonus Tip: Alexa Toolbar

I have also heard that installing and advertising their toolbar also helps to increase your rankings as they get the rankings by computing data from their toolbar.

This will however, only work on Internet Explorer and Firefox. I haven’t done this yet as I’m still waiting for my laptop. So, I can’t tell you much about it.

Congratulations on breaking 50k mark. You’re doing super awesome work everywhere. Social blogging communities is one of the best way to get quality traffic and alexa rank.

I break the record in just 6 months and got 25k alexa rank . All i did was a lot of blog commenting and forum posting.

These days i’m not focusing on alexa rank and page rank. I just check the Blokube breaks the 50k mark and got 37k Alexa rank.

Congratulations Mavis! And thanks for giving some tips on how to improve alexa rankings. I have read some tips regarding this topic before, and I was quite confused with the metrics they use before, until I’ve read somewhere that they are collecting data through users’ alexa toolbar installed on their browsers. Well, one major point of getting higher rankings on alexa is getting more traffic from different sources. Getting more content that have links directing to your site is definitely a great way to start off in boosting your traffic rank.

Congratulations Mavis. I totally agree with the tips you’ve provided on how to increase your alexa rankings. I was a part of the unified tribe last year and my alexa rankings really skyrocketed from 700,000 to 200,000 but when I tried to divert my attention on article marketing and seo lately, my alexa went back to 315,000. You’ve really provided a very VALUABLE post here. For nearly three years, I’ve been procrastinating in my blogging efforts. There is a knowledge in my head, but a lot of insecurity in my heart to really go after it.

However, after seeing how you went about getting the results you did, I was INSPIRED to get off my butt and into ACTION!

As a stay home dad for the past six years and a “wannabe” marketer, I’ve realized that no matter what I do or don’t know, if I don’t APPLY what I’ve learned, I’ll never know the true VALUE of what I have to offer the world around me.

Does having your site drop below 50k get you more advertisers? I am at 293k and dropping fast. I dropped from 5million to 293 in less than a month.

I joined the Yakezie Challenge and with all the blogging and new visitors my site plummeted. I also was hired to do the header for one of the blogs which was a nice way to make a few dollars. I will be back soon. Thanks for responding. That was cool of you.
