If you have been following my blogging posts, then you have learned a ton about installing recommended plugins, creating content for your blog, promoting your blog and much more. So, is your blog generating any traffic yet?
Probably not… at least not yet!
Your primary objective should be to generate leads on a daily basis and to convert those leads into customers and distributors. So, I’m going to share with you what you need to do to achieve this.
1) Blogging - Create Valuable Content
If you don’t create content, people will not find you and you will not be able to build a successful business online. And if you are one of those people who struggle with what to write about, fret no more! Refer to my blogging ideas.
Many people ask me this question, “How often should I write on my blog”? And my answer is, 2-3 times a week or daily if you can. Having a consistent schedule is the key here. When you write “killer” posts, your readers will keep coming back to your blog for more! Write about boring stuff, then you’ll lose your audience!
Your goal should be to write the best content so that your blog can stand out among the rest and have more readers. You also want people to share your posts with their friends and followers because they are great.
You can also outsource your blog content inexpensively to fill the gaps, if you are busy with the other things. I recommend odesk.com, elance.com, guru.com, warriorforum.com. A word of caution: you should always check the content before publishing, because your blog is about YOU and the content represents YOU!
2) Blogging - Generate Social Traffic
You need to integrate your blog with the social media sites so that you can drive massive, free traffic to your blog and ultimately into your business.
a) Twitter
- Make your blog your primary website link on Twitter. Top tip: Use a link to a capture page on your blog like this.
- Use a direct message to invite your new followers to promote their blogs and businesses on your blog. This is an offer they can’t refuse!
- Use TwitterFeed in combination with Ping.fm to automatically tweet about your new blog posts when they get published.
- Join Triberr and invite your friends so you can retweet each other’s content.
b) Facebook
- Link to your blog from your Facebook profile. Top tip: Use your blog as the only link on your profile.
- Import your blog RSS feed into Facebook as “Notes”. Top tip: Use “excerpts” in order to send your readers to your original posts. If you don’t do that, people will read the full content on Facebook and leave comments there. Remember that your goal is to drive traffic to your blog!
- If you have a Facebook group, send your members a message about your new posts, in order to get more visitors and readers.
- If you have a FanPage, send your new blog post updates to your fans.
- Use Facebook Comments for WordPress plugin to get more viral traffic as the commentors’ friends get exposed to your content.
c) YouTube
- Link to your blog from your YouTube profile.
- Create short videos to promote your new posts. Send your viewers to the relevant blog link for full content, from the video description.
3) Blogging - Generate Search Traffic
You also need to take advantage of the traffic from the search engines such as Google. The most important piece of the puzzle when it comes to search results is keywords.
It’s important that you do a keyword research before writing your posts so that people can find your content as well as ranking high in the search engines.
Once you have decided on your keywords, there are factors contributing to where your blog could show up in the search engines.
a) On-Site Factors refer to things that you do on your blog that can affect your search engine rankings:
- Domain name – having the keywords that you want to rank for in your domain name is very powerful. Also, the age of the domain has some impact on Google, believe it or not – old domain will rank better than the new one.
- Title and meta description – having your keywords in the blog title and meta description helps with your blog ranking.
- Keyword density – pay attention to how often your keywords are used in your posts. Don’t overuse them!
- Blog structure – having your content organised and linked together internally helps your blog to get ranked on each of the categories or sections.
- Outbound links – every link from your page to another site, causes it to lose a little rank. Don’t use a lot of outbound links.
b) Off-Site Factors refer to things that do not happen on your site but make a big difference:
- Inbound links are a very important part of your blog linking strategy in order to attract more traffic to your blog. Quality and quantity of these links are important.
- Anchor text – use the relevant keyword that you want to rank for instead of words such as “click here”.
4) Blogging - Share Your Offer
The above process is intended to get people to opt-in your list. So, it’s very important that you pay attention to your opt-in box. It will allow you to capture your readers’ information so that you can follow up with them and share what you have to offer with them.
Once you have a subscriber base, that’s a tried and true way to monetise by periodically offering your subscribers ethical offers for the products or services you believe in. And it’s important to offer amazing and value-packed emails in between your offers, so as not to turn your followers off. Get this right and put more money in your pocket!

Hey Mavis
Great post but you got me thinking
Do you think it is a good idea to outsource your blog content for your nerve center?
Or you outsource it but add your personal touches before posting.
Great post Mavis!!
There are so many tools that make it easier to expose our blogs. This is not only great for your business but it also makes it a lot more fun. Thanks for sharing this information!!
Sherman
Mavis some very good detailed points here. A lot of people say what but not how you did them both very well. This is a very informative post to say the least.
Steve Shoemaker
Totally Agree. Especially the part about creating valuable content. The best way to get traffic and to get people to point to your site is to create something that contributes to the cause. And of course, social media will play it’s part as it does nowadays.
Agreed. Thanks for your input.
Mavis,
Excellent list and related resources. Thank you for sharing.
Karen
Hi Mavis,
you're sharing amazing tips. I somehow realized that I still have plenty of potential to optimize my traffic generation and that's awesome. Especially making short videos on YouTube to promote the blog is something I'm going to dive into.
Thanks for sharing.
Take care
Oliver
Hi, Mavis -
It's amazing how much great info you managed to cover in a short post. I love this type of bullet writing; I don't have time to read a dragged out post and just want to get the gist of it and apply to my business – you did it very successfully.
One more thing I would add is traffic conversion is just as important as traffic generation. You will never build a good opt-in list if you don't know how to make subscribers out of your traffic.
Best,
Ana
This is really comprehensive Mavis. Your sentence – “Use your blog as the only link on your profile.” got me thinking…I'm almost certain there will be two schools of thought on this.
I often see multiple links on profiles, and am guilty of this myself! What is your take on this? Why would your blog link be best as the only link?
Look forward to your input on this.
Thanks,
Michael
Another amazing post Mavis, especially the tip on anchor text.
Thanks for sharing,
Michael
Hey Peter! Yes, outsourcing is great if you haven't got the time to post content regularly. Yes, you would need to check the content before publishing as your blog represents you!
Thanks for the visit. All the best, Mavis
Thank you, Sherman. You're right, blogging is fun, I LOVE it! All the best, Mavis
Thank you for your kind words, Steve. More bloggers need to read this post

Thank you, Karen. All the best, Mavis
I'm glad you found this useful, Oliver. Yes, there are many ways to promote your blog. All the best, Mavis
Thank you, Ana. I really appreciate your compliment
Thanks for your input as well – traffic conversion is important indeed! All the best, Mavis
I know, Peter! If you have a great blog, then you would want to promote it everywhere, right? So, if you have it as the only link on your profiles, you will drive more traffic to it, as people would not be presented with other links to click on.
As your blog is your hub, people can learn more about you and what you have to offer there.
And if you have a well-positioned opt-in box, with a great offer, then you would be able to build a list from it.
Hope this helps.
All the best,
Mavis
Thank you, Michael. I'm glad you found this useful. All the best, Mavis

I did like this article but one point I do not agree on: ”you can also outsource your blog content inexpensively to fill the gaps”. I have learned that outsourcing content is not always a good idea. People who are capable of writing a good and interesting article will not do it for cheep. Article that is outsourced and paid little for, is easy to spot and it will not do much good to a blog anyway. It is much better to get an article for free by offering a back link to a good author, or someone new to writing, a page to practice. You can call it “quest author page” and reward the best authors on this page again with back links. Many blogs do just that and I think it works out better than paid content.

Hi David! Welcome to my blog!
When you outsource, you’d have to check the quality of the work as every piece of content you put online, represents you. I agree, some areas of outsourcing may not be cheap, but it’s important to shop around and ask for recommendations.
Thanks for the visit and input. Hope to see more of you here, David.

Mavis
Hey Mavis,
I’m new to this blog, and this is my first post. Kept me hooked, it did. There’s only one problem I face when it comes to updating my blog. It’s not like I don’t have the time to do it, it’s just that I face a massive writer’s block every time I try!
Wonder when I’ll clear that up!
Any tips on how I can pull up some ideas and topics?
Jimmy

Well……
I’ve signed up to your 7 day. I like the honesty in what you promote. Thnaks for the tips in linking up to other social media. I’ve not completed that fully in the way you describe yet so it is something I intend to do.
I currently write every day on my blog. I believe in writing from the heart. I don’t neccessarily write what I think people want to hear. My experience of blogging since 2006 is that people love to read honest content. Sometimes, what I consider fairly mundane is pretty powerful and I get better responses on those posts.
Thank you

Hello again, Mavis!
As usual, you have provided content that is so useful and easy to implement. It’s why you are becoming one of the “go to” bloggers on the Internet.
I especially like your final point — about sharing your offer. I am amazed at how much time people will devote to writing and promoting their blog and then they have a crappy looking opt in box with a mediocre offer.
This is one of the most important parts of your blog (as you know)! If you don’t have that “irresistible offer” to entice your readers to fork over their information, then you’ll never build a list from your blog. And you’ll be leaving a ton of potential income on the table.
Thanks for this post, Mavis. By the way, I love your new blogging product, Blogging Secrets. Upgrading to your webinar series was a serious no brainer. The first webinar was full of tips and strategies I’ve never thought about. Can’t wait for more!
Bob
Glad to hear that, Dr Clarke
. I know what you mean, I also see some bloggers not paying attention to their offer. It’s really surprising as this is the most important part of your blog. As you said, they are leaving money on the table, what a shame!
Thank you so much for your positive feedback. See you on the next one!
All the best,
Mavis
Hi Mavis, great all around tips. I know some bloggers would had made this into 4 posts but not you! This is the real deal around these part. I just recently started using facebook. apparently I’ve totally missed out and now I’m trying to keep up lol.
I’m a big fan of twitter and have a great following there. I’m also a big fan of SE traffic. Blog Engage gets almost 500 hits a day from SE’s which is great for our members seeing 99% of our traffic is click troughs.

Can you really get converting traffic from youtube? I am really dubious about this one and have wasted loads of time on it. I know how many people use the site and how many search that site each day but I cant draw traffic from them, it never seems to work.
