Get Your Blog Off The Ground With A Schedule!
One of the important steps to successful blogging is to create valuable content on a regular basis. When you do that, you’ll attract more traffic to your blog and establish yourself as a leader. Here’s why:
1) Your readers will realise that your blog is a source of valuable information and practical solutions to their problems and keep coming back for more.
2) Search engines such as Google, are always looking for the freshest, most relevant content to show in the search results. The more you create content for your blog, the better chance you stand of getting it recognised by the search engines.
Simply put, regular quality content on your blog means increased traffic and more money in your pocket!
To achieve this, you need to create a blogging schedule that you’ll stick to in order to turn your blog into a cash generating platform. Isn’t this obvious?
Sadly not. I come across a lot of bloggers who are not seeing any significant results with blogging and when I look at their blogs I see that they are not consistent with writing their posts. What do I mean?
1) Some write a post once in a while, like once in two months or so,
2) Some write posts for several consecutive days then struggle to maintain the pattern,
3) Some have completely abandoned their blogs, not adding any content but still promoting them.
Now, these bloggers have one thing in common — they are hoping for some traffic to come their way and turn that traffic into profits. How can that be? Are they consistent? Nope!
If you are really serious about blogging and want to turn your blog into a source of decent income, then create a schedule right after reading this post. Don’t put it off any minute, otherwise it will never happen. Make a commitment to do it and put it on paper.
So, how often should you write posts then? I hear you ask… Glad you asked as this is one of the common questions I get from new bloggers.
The key is to develop a blogging schedule that is line with your circumstances and goals. There would be no point in aiming for two posts daily and fail to achieve that due to your other commitments. I personally recommend 2-3 quality posts a week. When my blog was still new, I used to produce up to 5 posts a week and now I write at least 2 posts a week without fail.
My publishing days are Mondays and Fridays. I would then publish a bonus post on a Wednesday. I have maintained this routine for a long time now and I am so used to it. So used to it, that I don’t even need a reminder
Now, the other thing that bloggers struggle with is the writer’s block. In fact this is what makes it difficult for many people to have a blogging schedule and actually stick to it. If you are one of those bloggers, fret no more! See my previous post on Blogging – How To Get Rid Of The Writer’s Block.
Here are some key points that will help you to kick-start your new blogging routine:
1) It all starts with planning. Make time for blogging and add it to your current schedule. How you do this will depend mostly on how important blogging is for you and what you want to achieve with your blog.
2) Choose the exact days that you want to publish on rather than being all over the place with your posts.
3) Keep a list of ideas for your future posts running. There is always something to write about!
4) Don’t put yourself under pressure to generate new content. Plan ahead. I always have draft posts ready to be published. Having your posts ready before the actual publishing day also works well.
5) Review your blogging schedule and make necessary adjustments to suit your circumstances and objectives. Remember it’s all about quality than quantity. Your goal should be to create current and quality content in a consistent manner.
If at any given time, you have a downtime on your blog, i.e. a long period of time without adding new content, then you’ll lose your readers and potential income! People will simply not return to your blog and will search for other good blogs instead.
It’s your turn now. If you have a blogging schedule, leave me a comment below and let me know how that is going for you. If you don’t have one, I would love to hear from you too — leave me a comment below with any questions or thoughts.

Great advice Mavis.
The secret is having a realistic target for publishing.
Then stick with it – be accountable.

Hi Mavis,
I have a schedule- Tuesdays and Thursdays. But really, sometimes I wonder what to write. I hope to get to the point where I wouldn’t have that as a problem anymore.

As usual Mavis, a post that really gets us thinking!
I don’t have a fixed schedule other than I do know that I HAVE to post to my blog. I run 2 blogs at the moment so it kinda throws things around a little.
I really only post to my blogs when I am able to produce what I think will be quality posts. I am not comfortable with the thought of simply posting because I should, every day or two…that’s when the quality is likely to drop!
Having said all that I post at least twice a month on both my blogs at the moment…& yes, I do feel that it should be at least once a week!
I’m trying hard to get there!

I agree, Michael. Quality is very important. Successful blogging is not about posting just for the sake of it.
With good planning, I’m sure you can achieve your goal of posting once a week
Thanks for the visit and for sharing your thoughts.

Great post and very true. A blog needs a set schedule and enforcement to thrive. Whether it is daily posts, 2x a week, weekly or even monthly posts.
Personally I do daily, though that may be ambitious for a relatively new blog (6+ mo. now).
Since I love plans I take it a step further too and try to have certain days for specific types of content.
Sundays: web site reviews (IE weekly best of)
Modays: What I think will be my “marquee” post of the week… (what I think is best doesn’t always end up the most liked)
Thursdays: Guest Posts
Fridays: Something “fun” (don’t always follow the friday rule)
Anyhow having some sort of post plan is an excellent idea!!

Mavis,
This is a valuable tip for bloggers. You’re right, that consistency is key to creating a solid network marketing home business blog. I honestly think that the more you write, the easier it is to write, and that’s been helpful to me. I write about 3 times a week, but I’ve not been consistent as far as which days I write. I’ll have to try that and see how it goes.
I really like Steve’s suggestion to have “theme” type posts where you do the same “type” of post each day.

Consistency is definitely the key to successful blogging, Mavis.
I must confess I am not too good with keeping my blogging schedule. I almost always find myself writing posts at the last minute!
However, I still try to publish at least 3 times per week; I don’t think I can handle more than that.

Hi Mavis,
Yes, I post once daily.

Hi Mavis,
your advice is priceless. Everybody needs a blogging schedule and stick to it consistently. Less can be more. When I started own self-hosted blog, I was writing twice a week and soon realized that this is not enough in order become established in the community quickly. Then I wrote 5 times a week from Monday to Friday consistently for 8 weeks without fail. With excellent results, “hard” results and “soft results”. Now I went back to 3 times a week, had a drop in traffic in the first week of doing so – and am now back on track again. Now I have to repurpose my older posts I wrote on my old blog which gives an additional boost.
At the end of the day, once a week consistently is better than 5 times week for four weeks – and then nothing, transmission ends.
Everybody needs to find a pattern to which they can stick to consistently.
Thanks for sharing.
Take care

Hi Mavis,
Important points: consistency and value cannot be bypassed.
As for schedules, I always find them difficult to stick to.
Personally I use more of a target system – I’ve got a few periods a week set aside for writing, and I my target is to produce three articles per week minimum. Sometimes I manage a fourth, but not often.
I’m always looking to find more efficient ways to work though, so I’ll experiment with some of the schedules suggested in your post, and the comments here.
Thanks,

Hi Mavis,
So true, a lot of blogs are not up to date, try some posts and after a little while, they stop beeing regular with posting contents, and sooner or later, they stop completely…

Hi Mavis
I try to keep a good schedule going but that’s not always practical in a lot of situations. The only remedy I can find is to import or reference other people’s posts at times. Not the most ideal formula for consistency but as long as it’s relevant to my flow and to my readers I believe it will be ok. Not to mention the backlinks it creates for the authors. But you are right in saying you need to pay attention to your blog. Sometimes subtle changes can make a website interesting enough for other users to remember you.

Hi Mavis,
I love this post. You’re right, there needs to be a schedule. It shouldn’t be hit or miss.
When I started I didn’t pick a specific day, I thought every 3 days sounded good. I had a lot of trouble with it because it wasn’t as easy to remember. Now I wonder “What was I thinking???”
I do 3 days per week most of the time. Sometimes I only do 2, but that is as low as I’m willing to go. And yes, now they are specific days of the week, and a habit.
You did a great job with this post!

Hi Mavis
That’s great Idea..
I was under a different scheduled. I was trying to post 2 post( At least } per week or 8 post per month but was not stick to any day scheduled.
I still don’t confirm my thoughts on fixed day posting but still, I will fix the days in the week to post and will then compare the result.
Thanks 4 d idea.

Mavis,
It seems that I’m blogging myself using the same principles as you
I have a publishing schedule of two posts per week – on Mondays (blog post) and on Fridays (video tip), then on every 3rd Friday, I’m publishing a podcast.
Planning ahead definitely helps and I try to have a brainstorming and planning sessions on every Sunday. I brainstorm new topics and outline the blog posts I’m about to write.
It is satisfying to see, that I have already blog post titles filled to my calendar for months to come.
Having a clear picture of how you are going to update your blog is essential to keep the momentum going.
