If you are wondering if you should use a regular static HTML website or a blog, then this post will help you decide.
For starters, a blog allows you to add fresh content whenever you wish without paying a web designer to do it for you (yeah!). You don’t need to know HTML, as long as you can type, then you are good to go.
Here’s why you should have a blog:
1) It Builds Your Brand
Personal branding is critical when you’re building your business online. People always buy YOU first, then your products or services. Your blog should reflect who you are — your personality, skills and talent.
2) It Gives You The Authority
You are instantly seen as the expert and the leader in the industry, offering solutions to people’s problems.
3) It Gives You Credibility
When you start sharing valuable information with the world, you start building some level of credibility and being viewed as a resource.
Although there are different blogging platforms available, WordPress is highly recommended. There are two types: WordPress.org is self-hosted and you have no restrictions over your content and adverts while WordPress.com is free, there are restrictions with advertising. You can get warned or shut down for not adhering to their rules.
**Note: migrating your entire content to another blogging platform is possible.
Here are the reasons why you should choose WordPress:
1) WordPress Is Favoured By The Search Engines
Search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing are constantly looking for new and relevant content to show in their search results. And one of Google’s reliable places for fresh content is WordPress.
2) WordPress Is Loved By Bloggers
It’s very popular among bloggers, it’s well established and has the best support team as well as help sections. Very easy to install, configure and work on. And thousands of bloggers write about WordPress topics.
3) WordPress Is Very Extendable
It has multitudes of free themes and plugins. There are so many things that you can do to customise your blog and make it look the way you want it to as well as perform different functions.
4. WordPress Provides SEO Benefits
It’s a well optimised platform and the All in One SEO Pack plugin is excellent in optimising your blog for the search engines. But there are few things that you need to do to make it a lot easier to work with. It’s super simple and you don’t need to be an SEO “wizard”
5) WordPress Is Up-to-date
It gets updated regularly ensuring that any security problems are dealt with so that users do not become targets of the hackers.
Well, there is a lot more…

Great Content Mavis, it's amazing how many people don't know the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org…. a simple element that can restrict your advertising and your cash flow.

it`s a lot more than that…………
Mavis,
This is a great explanation on wordpress. Personally I noticed a huge difference when I bit the bullet and set up my own blog. This is great information to pass on! I gave it a retweet to spread the word:D
Great post!

True… I just covered only a few points for this post… Thanks for stopping by. All the best, Mavis
I’ve experimented with WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and phpFusion; and I agree that WordPress is the best choice for most people.
The amount of quality templates and plugins is huge, plus it’s a very intuitive CMS.
I rate Joomla a fairly close 2nd, but I find that it’s easier for me to get websites up and running quickly with WordPress.

Thanks Sandy… Wordpress.org is definitely the way to go! All the best, Mavis
I´ve used a Wordpress plataform at my own site and yes, it is amazingly vesatile. Indeed the best you can choose to blogging.
Once you become somewhat popular you´ll begin getting plenty of spam comments so one of the Wordpress plug-ins to control spam will be very useful.
I can recommend you Akismet.com it has bloked more than 17,000 spamming comments on my blog, you can check this over here: http://danielcajiga.com
I think this is a very good article as it is obvious that have been invested a good ammount of time in research and/or experience in blogging. Thank you very much Mavis. Keep up the great work!
I tweeted it already.
Very true, Daniel. I use Akismet too. Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by. All the best!
I use wordpress for every site I set up… blogs or static, they all get wordpress. Ease of use + plenty of beautiful themes + google love, its the best platform by far. Great article.

Wordpress is Fab! Liked your article Mavis.
It has so many advantages over the other blogging platforms it is almost an unfair fight.
The fact that its free, the ease of setup, the variety of themes (both paid and free that are available) and the biggest reason of all are the amazing variety of plugins that are available.
There simply isn’t another blogging platform that comes even close to wordpress in terms of the number of cool things you can do with a plugin.
In terms of setting up online communities I do think there are lots of good things to be said about Drupal. But for blogging, wordpress has no equal.

Hi Mavis,
I agree with everything you wrote in this post! I think blogging is essential if you want to get noticed, build credibility and an audience in your chosen niche. Like Elan above, I now use Wordpress for all of my websites, even sales letters and opt-in pages! Wordpress makes content publishing so much easier than when I first started out online in 1997 – bloggers today don’t realise how easy they have it!

I am not really a fan of Wordpress, and I will tell you why. First of all, you do not have the total control over the look of your site that you do with static sites. Also, it is much easier to spam
As far as the All in One SEO pack goes, it contains stuff you can easily put on your site yourself. And as far as getting an SEO advantage, I can tell you that my site outranks everybody but one for my chosen keyword, and I do not use Wordpress

I use wordpress because of it great SEO friendly
Agreed.
I love using wordpress. It is because it is very convenient to use. Before I was using blogger but I chose wordpress now because it is suitable and more friendly to my readers. Wordpress is a great platform to build and maintain a website or blog.

Indeed Wordpress is the king of blogging platforms!
It’s a perfect foil for either the complete novice or the web designer guru; that’s what makes it so successful.
That and the fact that it’s open source community just keeps growing and further enhancing it as a product is great for us the consumer.
I tried Joomla before getting into Wordpress, and that too is another good blogging platform, but it can’t compete with Wordpress and I’ve never looked back!
It is indeed. I have never used anything else.
I completely agree with your reasons for using WordPress. However, nobody ever talks about the fact WP is a hosting server hog. Because it’s database-driven and has many files, a WP blog will use much more resources than a static html site. This is important if you operate a few blogs using a shared server.
That said, I still use WP for pretty much all of my websites because the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. My hosting solution was to switch to a VPS where I get a dedicated amount of space so my load time is fast.

Hi Mavis,
I’m loving your blog. Again, I agree completely that wordpress is the ‘only’ platform to build your website on. Whoever came up with the plugin concept is a genious. I think the greatest benefit is when it comes to SEO. If you use plugins like SEO processor and all in one seo, you are almost certain to provide a perfectly on page optimized site to the crawlers.
I honestly couldn’t imagine myself using anything other than wordpress.
Again, thanks for the article.
All the best

What has surprised me most about blogging is the sense of community. I am such an addict now!
Being a part of a community is the way to go.
Hi Mavis, you have such a very informative post! I totally agree with you. I love wordpress, one of the best blog sites.
Thanks for sharing!
Have a great day!

I agree Wordpress is the best tools to use to create a blog and the website. Google loves WordPress. Another thing wordpress has is a lot of plug-ins like commentlove that you use. Also another plug in is XML map. This tells Google the map of your pages.
Thanks for the post
Themeparkguru invites you to check..Shrek 4D at Universal in Orlando – who is your favorite character
That’s true.
@Themeparkguru – You are right, Google really responds well to the XML sitemaps. If you were to have two idential sites and one with and one without this plugin you wouldnt see the one without for dust! The fact that these plugins are often free is also one of the many reasons WP has such a great following.
If I ever decide to start a blog it would be WP because the features are just amazing and its so user friendly. There is just no ending to the many positive features of WordPress and I was still missing on some, glad you wrote this important post.
Great to hear, Mel.
