I have just finished reading The Perpetual Traffic Report by Ryan Deiss. If you really want to drive endless traffic at NO cost to your blog, then you have to grab this amazing report, whilst it’s still FREE!
It’s often said that Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the most complex marketing strategy to master. However this marketing strategy is now becoming easier, so you don’t have to pay professionals too much money to optimise your website(s).
When understood and done properly, SEO can get your site on the very 1st page of Google, when people search on your specific keywords and drive massive traffic into your business. Who wouldn’t want that?
Let me share with you the 3 primary steps to get your blog ranked higher on Google:
STEP 1: Create Quality Content
A blog without valuable content is useless. Your goal should be to create the best content consistently, so that your blog can stand out and start generating some traffic.
You also need to pay attention to the following factors in order to make Google happy and send you enough traffic:
- Domain name – having the keywords that you want to rank for in your domain name is very powerful. Also, the age of the domain has some impact on Google, believe it or not – old domain will rank better than the new one.
- Keyword research is an important process before you write your posts so that people can find your content as well as boosting your rankings.
- Keyword density – pay attention to how often your keywords are used in your posts. Don’t overuse them!
- Title and meta description – having your keywords in the blog title and meta description helps with your blog ranking.
- Blog structure – having your content organised and linked together internally helps your blog to get ranked on each of the categories or sections.
STEP 2: Create Quality Inbound Links
It’s important that you generate a good number of links from quality, authoritative sites in order to attract more traffic to your blog.
Side Note: Don’t start driving links until your blog is getting some traffic. That would be a giveaway that something dodgy is going on. It wouldn’t make sense for a site that’s not generating any traffic to have thousands of inbound links, would it?
FACT: Content and inbound links have always been present in Google’s algorithm and they have been the main variables, until recently…
OK, you have been updating your blog with fresh content consistently and getting quality inbound links – so what happens next?
I bet you’re wondering…
The above steps WILL NOT move your blog very high until you implement the third step, which Google has introduced recently:
STEP 3: Encourage Activity
Google is now factoring ACTIVITY more heavily in their rankings. Content and links may get you temporary rankings, but if you want to move up in the rankings faster and stay there longer, then the following activities will help you:
- Promote your blog in order to drive more traffic,
- Encourage your readers to leave you comments at the end of your posts,
- Invite your readers to subscribe to your RSS feed, (Top tip: use Google’s own tools such as FeedBurner – it measures how many subscribers a blog has, which is one of the most effective ways to establish human activity on a particular blog).
This step is an important piece of the puzzle that can you give you unlimited traffic to your blog. Here’s the new formula:
Content + Links + Activity = Perpetual Traffic
Side Note: Google shifts their “emphasis” between these 3 primary steps every 18-24 months, so it’s not like you need to “tweak your strategy” all that often. In fact, the most recent update (code-named “Caffeine”) occurred in late June 2010, so you shouldn’t expect another one for a while.
Follow these steps and reap the rewards! Get things out of order or completely automate the whole process, then your blog could get wiped off the search results in the end. You don’t want that, do you?

Hi Mavis,
great information, I just downloaded this free report, thanks for sharing.
I find especially your third item highly interesting: Encourage activity. Let's face it: It's more fun for everybody, both for the blogger and the reader. If it helps with SEO, the better.
Take care
Oliver
I loved Perpetual Traffic Report – wealth of information and food for thought.
Activity aspect of SEO makes so much sense! Human aspect of an algorithm is a pretty amazing concept if you think about it; I am glad I am a part of our EIF tribe for that one!
Best,
Ana Hoffman
Valuable information you share here Mavis, I will definitely grab a copy of this report.
Valuable, relevant content will always be the driving force behind any website & it is what brings visitors back often. The secret is to put this content onto your site often. This is a well debated subject – how often & when is it too often?
Also, we are often so busy keeping tuned to what Google wants, that we forget the other search engines out there. Does optimizing for Google achieve the same results with Yahoo, for example?
Stay inspired!
Michael
It's an awesome report, Oliver.
It makes sense doesn't it? Human activity is the whole idea for blogging! We just need to get this third step right
Thanks for your visit and for your comment.
All the best,
Mavis Nong
Me too! Thank you once again for our EIF tribe, it ROCKS! I appreciate your visit and comment.
All the best,
Mavis Nong
I recommend 2-3 times a week, some say daily… The key is to have a schedule and stick to it.
Google is the major and popular search engine, hence we are so focused on doing what they want
SEO applies to the other search engines as well.
Thanks for stopping by and for your comment.
All the best,
Mavis
Hello Mavis
If anyone knows what Google likes and dislikes it is Ryan Deiss. I give him credit for testing and retesting.
I remember when Matt Cutts wrote something like “write for your readers not the search engines”
Search engine algorithms are constantly changing, but good content with good interaction with your readers never changes.
I just love how each and everyone of these 3 steps have one thing in common – they provoke a reaction.
Put out great content – people listen. Share that great content – people listen again. Encourage involvement – people listen again. It just go on and on, as long as you're providing what they need.
Nice job on this post Mavis.
Talk to you later,
Jerome Ratliff
Mavis this is great content the newbie or the advanced seo could pick up a thing or two here. I just subscribed to feedburner myself and some other services affiliated with it and can see it's powerful stuff.
One thing I would stress right now is with the introduction of google caffeine that was released no to long ago the emphasis will shift back to on page optimization something we should all be mindful of.
Learned a lot here,
Steve Shoemaker
Hi Mavis,
When I first started to learn about SEO, it seemed overwhelming but the more I learn the more I think that writing for the reader is the most important thing.
If you write first and tweak later, you can get the best of both worlds.
Even if your keyword density isn't bang on, if you have traffic and links coming to your site, it's going to get that little bots attention.
When I get Googles attention I want it to be in a good way
Thanks for the post.
Take care,
Neil
Hi Mavis,
I've been hearing more and more about this ebook lately. I'll have to set the time aside and read it this week.
SEO does sound overwhelming and utterly boring, I look at it as a necessary evil.
Thanks for this!
Susanna
Very true, Peter. Thanks for visiting and for commenting. All the best, Mavis
You're right, Jerome. Ongoing activity on your blog is very important. In fact, that's the whole idea for blogging!
Thanks for the visit and for your comment.
All the best,
Mavis
I agree, FeedBurner is very powerful.
Yes, with new Google Caffeine changes, content and human activity to that content will make a huge difference.
I appreciate your visit and comment, Steve.
All the best,
Mavis

Hi Mavis,
This is a great ebook along with the Cherry Picker software. You did a really great job breaking it down and sharing your point of view about it.
I have been trying to improve my SEO efforts along with my copywriting skills. I know this is beneficial for getting more exposure online.
Thank you for the value.
Have a great day,

Mavis,
Great post and blog too…I've been meaning to read this report, so I guess I'll go ahead and make some time. As far a linking strategies go, I've had some great results setting up Hub Pages that link back to a new blog, and then building links to the Hub Page instead of my new blog.
Keep up the great work.
Rich
Hi Tommy,

Nice work as always.
3 great steps – Thanks.
Thank you for your kind words, Mike. I appreciate your visit and comment. All the best, Mavis
I think internal linking is something people usually forget to use…It can give huge benefits, if used how it should…
Hi Mavis!
Ryan's Perpetual traffic formula is great as well as his little CherryPicker software. BUT… the cost of his teaching about getting FREE traffic is far from free… did you check the price? Not that sexy!
It's very important to have a good link-building strategy in place. Thanks for the visit and for your comment. All the best, Mavis
Hi Elena,
Welcome to my blog!
You're right, it doesn't come cheap!
Thanks for stopping by and for your comment.
All the best,

I hope that book is still free, I’m gonna have to go and check. Anyway, you have such an organized post and these are really great tips. I really agree with having activity on your blog, without activity then your blog becomes a tombstone. So get it alive and going.

Hi Andrew,

Hi Joel,
Welcome to my blog!
Glad you found this useful
All the best,

Hi Mavis,
Hope you doing well. The factors listed here by you for website ranking are excellent. Google algorithm also says that there should be no duplicate content. It will effect the ranking. Use unique and fresh content in your site for better ranking.
Thanks.
That’s true, Shanelee.
I think all of these things even still hold true today with the Panda updates. I’d say ‘relevance’ is just as important for content and linking.
Unique content will probably always be king…and frequent updates alone to your blog are sometimes good enough to rank for long tail keywords. Great info all around.
That’s true, Steve.
